Training Classes and Services

We limit our classes to eleven teams of dogs and handlers to make sure that you get the individual attention that you need. Our classes are built upon one another. We add distractions and a more difficult degree of control as your dog matures. Please call us to schedule a class. At least 2 rounds of vaccines including the K9 cough (Bordetella) are required prior to enrolling in training classes.

Puppy Development Class:

Prerequisite – Dogs must be 12 weeks of age and have their 3rd set of shots. This is a fun, positive, and motivational five week course in which you are educated in dog psychology, pack theory, and instinctive drives and behaviors. The course teaches proper upbringing and keep, as well as problem prevention, i.e. chewing, house soiling, barking, etc. We also teach a calming technique called the settle exercise. This exercise shows your dog that by handling him it does not lead to physical harm and builds a strength of bonding and sets the foundation for a leader/follower relationship. Pups also receive vital social interaction between people and other dogs during their first fear period.

Basic Obedience Class

Prerequisite – Dogs must be 5 months of age. This is a six week course. The first week is orientation (with your dog) and then 5 weeks of lessons. Owner education includes additional pack theory and relationship, and understanding of the temperament and character of your own dog. For the dog, the fundamental of manners and obedience: sit, sit stay, down, down stay, heeling, coming when called, stay back at the door, and let's go which is an attention exercise. Additional problem resolving solutions are addressed, such as jumping up, barking, etc.

Intermediate Obedience Class:

Prerequisite – Basic Obedience Class The mid-point between on-lead and off-lead obedience, this six week course includes: recall, hand signals from side and front, heeling without a hand on the leash, and working closely with other dogs. We also teach under a higher level of distraction. This brings in drive responses and teaches your dog to come under control even when emotionally excited.

Advanced Obedience Class:

Prerequisite – Intermediate Obedience Class This 8 week course brings your dog to the point of off-lead control. The class teaches off lead heeling, sit - stay and down - stay while the owner is out of sight. Hand signals without verbal commands are also taught, strengthening visual attention between dog and handler. This focus increases response time which can be very valuable especially in potentially dangerous situations.

CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Class:

The AKC CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. This 5 week class teaches all of the 10 items that the CGC test includes. The first four weeks of the class is instruction and the final week is the CGC test. All dogs who pass the test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Dog Behavior Evaluations:

This is a one on one consultation with our training director Jim. This consultation is designed for specific problems such as aggression, fear, anxiety, etc. Jim will come up with a training strategy based upon your dogs specific issues. This training program will be tailored to the needs of your dog and situations arising in your environment.

In-Kennel Training:

One of our most popular forms of training, this is designed for those who prefer to have their dogs handled by our expert staff, or for dogs which have extreme behavior problems. Dogs are dropped off for a minimum of one week of boarding. The all inclusive rate includes boarding, daycare for those dogs with suitable temperament, and training. A private lesson is scheduled for you when you pick your dog up, so you can learn the handling techniques and obedience commands taught to your dog.

Daycare Training:

For our clients who drop their dog off for daycare, training is also available. After 5 training sessions, you can choose to schedule a private lesson.

Private Lessons:

Prerequisite – Behavior Evaluation may be required

One on one lesson with our instructors can help you with anything from behavioral issues, brushing up on your dogs obedience, getting ready for a competition and wanting a few pointers, coming when called, or an array of other challenges you may be dealing with.
